Saturday's clash with Nottingham Forest might not be head coach Lee Carsley's last game in charge at Brentford, but it could be one of them.

The 41-year-old replaced Marinus Dijkhuizen at the end of September and has overseen a remarkable turnaround in fortunes that saw him pick up the manager of the month award for October.

Carsley's self-confessed expertise lies in player development, which led him to only agree a short-term deal at Griffin Park until the end of the season at best.

He has become a favourite with fans since leading the club to a run of four wins in six games prior to the international break.

But Swansea City assistant boss Pep Clotet has since emerged as the favourite to succeed Carsley in west London on a permanent.

And the former Everton midfielder admitted the change could come sooner rather than later.

"Between myself and the club, we both know where we stand," he said.

"I had a remit to try and get the club back on track. We are moving in the right direction and when a new man is appointed the club will be in a better position than what it was.

"I expect something to happen quite soon. It is important the players get their focus.

"They are up to speed with goings on are up to speed for Saturday.  We'll worry about everything else after that.

"I was brought in short-term to pick the team up and pick the club up. We have done that."

Carsley was a very reluctant head coach when he took charge earlier in the season, but he has warmed to the role and thinks it is a job he would like to do again in the future.

"It is fair to say I'm capable of doing it. It is a route I would be keen to go down in the future," he added.

"It is not something I want to do in the near future. I've still got goals to fulfil in development and coaching. I'm learning something everyday and still have things to learn.

"I've really enjoyed it. I'm proud to have been part of the club's history and hopefully the club will go from strength to strength because it is moving in the right direction."
