AFC Wimbledon Ladies boss Chris Lyons reckons being based at Sutton United's Gander Green Lane this season could propel them to the Women's Premier League.

Talking ahead of United's pre-season friendly against a Crystal Palace XI on Tuesday night, which officially opened the new 3G pitch, Lyons also urged fans to support their push to the top flight.

"The girls are decent players, we don't muck around, we're in this to play proper football the proper way," he said.

"If you look at the Women's World Cup, you see how technically sufficient the girls are and we're no different."

He added: "We want to get into the Women's Premier League and what we need is a ground that meets the grading criteria for the WPL and Sutton fits that bill perfectly."
