After beating Wycombe Wanderers to secure their place in the third round hat, Dons boss Neal Ardley wanted a glamour tie for the club to look forward to.

Now, with Liverpool on the horizon, Ardley is keen his players maintain their focus on the four League Two games that come first.

It starts with the long trip to York City this weekend, followed by the visits of Mansfield and Exeter, sandwiching the journey to Portsmouth.

Dons have won just twice in the past 10 league games, sitting 16th in the table, making Ardley’s call for focus all the more important.

Former Dons striker signs on at Kingstonian

He said: “My job is to keep the players thinking about the league, rather than the FA Cup – I will be speaking to them about not doing any media interviews about Liverpool until the time comes round.

“Hopefully I’ll have three or four days to prepare the players for the game, and then we’ll talk about how we approach the game.”

Dons go to York City this weekend, with Ardley facing no new injury concerns.
