Walton Casuals boss Mark Hams is hoping the fact his side are already out of the FA Cup gives them the chance to get over a miserable start to the season.

The Stags, who crashed out of the cup at Whitstable Town last week, made it eight straight defeats with a 2-0 defeat at home to Worthing last Tuesday night.

Hams’s men, who finished just shy of the play-offs last term, were five points adrift at the foot of the table ahead of the weekend, needing a whopping seven points to get out of the relegation zone.

Casuals are back in action after the enforced FA Cup break and Hams can only hope a rest is a s good as a change for the Waterside Drive strugglers.

“We are running out of excuses,” said the manager, who is uncertain how long he can survive in the hotseat on current form.

“I’d love to say that one win will see us go on and secure four or five on the bounce, but I can’t at the minute.

“I’ve been on the phone to 18 different managers at various levels seeing if I can do some deals because we need to freshen things up.

“I will be the man that gets that first win. I’m not giving up.”

When it rains it tends to pour as new signing goalkeeper Jake Winchup arrived only 10 minutes before kick-off on Tuesday due to traffic problems and work commitments Quincy Rowe forced him out of the fray at 5.30pm.

Casuals host league leaders Burgess Hill Town tomorrow night.
