Ks boss Tommy WIlliams is hoping Sam Page’s goal in Monday’s 3-2 defeat to Vanarama Conference Braintree Town is a sign of things to come.

The former Sutton United cenre back opened the scoring against former Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Alan Devonshire’s men before Andre McCollin doubled the advantage.

But the visitors hit back through a Michael Bakore double before ex-Dons man James Mulley netted the winner on his old stomping ground.

McCollin and Ryan Moss dominated the scoring charts last term, but former chief Alan Dowson was frustrated by a lack of goals from other parts of the field.

New strikers Nathaniel Pinney and Elvis Hammond have also been among the goals this pre-season, but they fired blanks at the weekend as Josh Casey scored his side’s only goal in a 2-1 defeat at Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday.

Williams wants the likes of Page, Alan Inns and Matt Drage to be more of a threat at set-pieces and would love more from the rest of his squad during the forthcoming league campaign.

“We were very reliant on the front two scoring goals last season and that was a bit of a problem,” said the manager this week.

Work in progress: Sam Page celebrates his goal against Braintree Town

“Andre McCollin has been working hard and is looking sharp, but we need to get goals from other areas consistently and we are certainly looking at being more threatening at set-pieces.

“We are playing with a few things in training and will be working on that specifically before the start of the season.”

The two defeats were Kingstonian’s first of pre-season, but Williams was not too concerned as he continues to experiment with his starting line-up.

“The squad is looking sharp and strong and that is what it is all about,” he added.

“We have Dover Athletic on Saturday and then Merstham on Tuesday, so I would think we will still be looking at things and working on how we want the team to play this season.

“We have one or two more things to nail down but we are virtually there.”
