A lifelong AFC Wimbledon fan is hoping to provide Dons’ boss Neal Ardley with a boost to his transfer kitty.

Mike Richardson, who has supported the club for more than 50 years, has offered to match every £1 donated by fans towards the playing budget in June, up to £100,000.

Fans can donate by either signing up to the We Are Wimbledon Fund or by sending a one-off donation to the club.

Richardson, the club’s vice president said: “I’m very impressed with the progress that Neal has made since he joined the club.

“But if we are to achieve our potential he needs more funds at his disposal.”

With up to £100,000 being matched, funds for Ardley’s playing squad could be boosted by as much as £200,000, and Richardson is looking forward to the new season.

Richardson added: “With that sort of extra money at his disposal, I’m convinced that we will be in for a very exciting season.”

Dons chief executive Erik Samuelson said: “Mike has been a fantastic supporter of the club over the years and this is another fine example of his desire to help us progress.”
