Hampton & Richmond Borough chairman Steve McPherson hopes the Beavers’ Middlesex Senior Cup win on Saturday is the start of something big.
Co-managers Paul Barry and Darren Powell saw the their side stun runaway Ryman Premier League champions Wealdstone with a 3-2 triumph thanks to Dave Tarpey double and one from midfielder Tom Hickey.
Hampton have upset the odds on a host of occasions in a disappointing league campaign, but it has been against the division’s strugglers that the Beveree outfit have come unstuck.
And McPherson reckoned the cup success would give the club a decent platform from which to launch a promotion bid next season.
“What a day. The team were fantastic from start to finish and we are very proud of this win,” he said.
“It keeps smiles on faces over the close season, and gives us something to build on to take into next year.
“I’d like to congratulate the players and staff on a wonderful achievement. Hopefully it’s just the start.”
