Whyteleafe hit three to stay three points ahead of their rivals

Richmond and Twickenham Times: Winners: Three is the magic number for Leafe boss John Fowler Winners: Three is the magic number for Leafe boss John Fowler

Whyteleafe remain three points clear at the top of the Southern Counties East League after a comfortable 3-0 win over Lordswood.

It would have been a lot more but for Luke Prentice in the visitor's goal as he kept the scoreline reasonable with a string of fine saves.

Leafe have dropped just seven points in 20 league games, and hold all the cards as their nearest rivals Tunbridge Wells have played two games more.

Against Lordswood, John Fowler's men had a great chance to open the scoring after five minutes when Alex Penfold’s long throw found Roscoe DSane in space in front of goal but Prentice made a fine point blank save.

The resultant corner from Jason Thompson was flicked on by DSane to Taylor Smith who saw his shot blocked on the line.

Lordswood’s best effort of the match came in the 17th minute - Adam Woolcott cut inside Tommy Smith and his shot from outside the area crashed against the bar.

On the half-hour, Louis Hollingworth broke the deadlock heading home a corner from Thompson.

Penfold’s long throws were causing havoc in the home defence and another in the 37th minute found Fowler on the edge of the box.

His shot was sliced into the path of Bentley Graham, who’s fine strike produced another great save from Prentice.

Leafe began the second half in style and took little time in making the result of the game safe.

DSane sent Graham clear in the 48th minute and he slotted home past the advancing Prentice.

The third goal followed two minutes later when, in a similar move, Fowler sent Taylor Smith clear and he scored from close range.

Thompson’s 53rd minute shot produced another good save from Prentice, and Graham’s shot from the rebound was deflected for a corner.

Prentice made a further great save to deny Fowler in the 79th minute, and two late saves in the closing minutes from Gareth Williams and Greg Andrews.

Next up for Whyteleafe is the visit of Fisher on Saturday.
