Craig Dundas' 11th goal of the season was the difference as Sutton United beat Dover Athletic 1-0 on Tuesday night.
United had travelled to Kent lying fourth in the Skrill South table, and although they remain there, their run of four wins in five games has them slowly cementing a place in the play-offs.
Dundas' winner came just two minutes into the game, and leaves Dover, who ended the match with 10 men, in seventh.
United, 13 points off leaders Bromley but only two behind second-placed Eastleigh, travel to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.
