AFC Wimbledon debutant Danny Hylton came off the bench to fire the Dons to a 2-1 victory against Hartlepool United – recording the club’s first back-to-back home wins since August.

Hylton, who signed on loan from Rotherham United on Monday, and Charlie Wyke were introduced at half time with the Dons 1-0 down, and Neal Ardley admitting he had made a tactical blunder.

The 24-year-old’s finish, low into the bottom corner after 76 minutes, followed Will Antwi’s headed leveler after Hartlepool took the lead through Luke James just before half time.

The win moves Wimbledon up to ninth and within eight points of the League Two play-off places. Ardley made four changes to the 11 that beat Exeter City on Saturday, with Aaron Morris, Charlie Sheringham, Kevin Sainte-Luce and Jim Fenlon, who returned from a three-game ban, coming in.

The Pools travelled to the Cherry Red Records Stadium a point below the Dons, and it was the visitors who took control early on.

Stopper Ross Worner was called into action twice in the first 10 minutes as Simon Walton stung his gloves from range with two efforts.

Wimbledon’s best chances came from set pieces as Saint-Luce failed twice to convert from Sammy Moore corners.

The Dons hopes of getting to the break on terms were dashed after 44 minutes as Middlesbrough loanee Luke Williams broke down the right flank and delivered for James to convert.

The changes at the break altered the dimension of the game – Wyke came close to leveling straight from kick off, with Pools’ keeper Scott Flinders blocking his effort.

Antwi, though, did equalise after 74 minutes with a scrambled header from Moore’s deep free kick. And two minutes later Hylton, on the edge of the box, drilled into the bottom corner to steal the spoils.

Dons, now unbeaten in three, face a tough assignment on Saturday with a trip to promotion-chasing Oxford United.
