Jack Midson made amends for an early own goal with a late winner to give AFC Wimbledon a valuable win over League Two rivals Exeter City at Kingsmeadow on Saturday.

Midson headed Matt Grimes’ corner into his own net to give the visitors an early lead but Luke Moore equalised eight minutes before the break.

And Midson had the final say, in the 74th minute, when he redirected Kevin Sainte-Luce’s scuffed shot past Artur Krysiak to secure a 2-1 win and give the Dons just their second victory in 11 games.

Exeter started well and took the lead after just four minutes when Grimes’ in-swinging corner found the back of the net via a deflection off Midson.

Another Grimes cross eluded the Wimbledon defence a few minutes later but Jimmy Keohane could only volley over from close range.

Dons debutant Darren Jones had a header well saved by Krysiak from Callum Kennedy’s deep cross before the keeper almost palmed a Kennedy corner into his own net as the hosts grew in confidence.

They continued to press and found the equaliser when Luke Moore tapped in from two yards out after Middlesbrough loanee Charlie Wyke’s marauding run and low cross.

Half-time substitute John O’Flynn should have restored the Grecians’ lead five minutes after the break but, when Tim Nichols found him with a beautiful flick, he could only blaze his shot over from eight yards.

The visitors thought they had taken the lead when Ross Worner fumbled Keohane’s long range strike but Nichols was offside when he tapped in the rebound.

And the hosts took advantage when lively substitute Sainte-Luce finished a great run with a scuffed shot and Midson reacted quickest to poke home from close range.

Danny Butterfield’s long range shot forced Worner into a good save in the final 10 minutes but the Dons held on for a first home win since November.
