Surrey's Saqlain Mushtaq has warned the club's LV County Championship Division One rivals the Brit Oval side will only get better once the weather improves.

Skipper Mark Butcher's men held on for a comfortable draw at the Riverside last week but not after Mushtaq had destroyed the hosts second innings with a burst of five wickets for the three runs off just 14 balls.

He finished with figures of 6-50 - with keeper Jon Batty taking three stumpings - in a rain affected draw and Mushtaq believes the team are working hard to turn their efforts into maximum points.

"The team is working in the right direction. Hopefully the weather will stay good now and once we start playing a full four-days cricket the results will start coming," he said "I'm pleased I managed to get a few overs in. I need to bowl outside in spikes to find my form. I'm pretty pleased with how things are going and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season."

Surrey travel to Hove this week to face champions Sussex.
