Weybridge’s Henry Turner and Akbar Ansari provided the inspiration that secured their side’s first win of the Surrey Championship Premier Division season to move off the foot of the table on Saturday.
Opening bowler Turner’s six wickets (6-58) – which included Malden Wanderers run machine Alan Cope, who hit 86 – helped skipper Joel Pope’s men dismiss hosts Wanderers for 195.
Opener Pope was removed with the third ball of the innings as his side were reduced for 30-3, but Ansari’s unbeaten 136 got the win.
Weybridge host Camberley tomorrow and Malden visit Reigate Priory.
