Purley face a last-day relegation battle this weekend after failing to secure Division One safety on Saturday.
Defeats for Epsom and Walton-on-Thames meant third-placed Purley would have been safe with victory over high-flyers Cheam, but a seven-wicket defeat sees them go into Saturday's match at derby rivals Old Whitgiftian only a point above the relegation zone.
A victory would guarantee them their spot in the league next year and captain Keith Medlycott insisted he and his players are excited ahead of the game.
“We all play amateur cricket here," he said.
"We don't get paid when we win or anything like that, we can't lose sight of why we play in the first place.
“We all play either because we are young and loving it or we are old and have never fallen out of love with cricket.
“It's nice to win and that is what we strive to do.
"We will strive to do well on Saturday and yes there are some nerves but overall we are excited.
"It will be another great opportunity and challenge to test ourselves against a very good 11.”
Meanwhile, Addiscombe jumped into the promotion places in Division Four after a 27-run victory over Staines & Laleham.
Opener Andrew Poulton top scored with 54 as Addiscombe set a total of 195 for Staines to chase, which they found difficult after being reduced to 89-7 and were eventually bowled out for 168.
Addiscombe only need a win to clinch promotion when they face SinjunGrammarians this Saturday.
Southern Railway & Kenley beat Warlingham by 168 runs but other results mean they can no longer go up, while Croydon MO's victory over Thames Ditton takes them off the bottom of the Division Five table.
