Yet to re-sign: Matt Heywood

Brentford boss Andy Scott has admitted he is not 100 per cent confident of committing skipper Matt Heywood to a new deal for next season.

The 28-year-old becomes a free agent at the end of the season and, although he has said he would like to stay at Griffin Park, he is yet to put pen to paper.

Scott, who is happy with the size of his playing budget for next season, offered terms to Heywood's agent this week, and is expecting an answer before Saturday's clash with promotion-chasing Hereford United.

And the 35-year-old manager confessed he has a contingency plan in place should the former Bristol City centre-back decide to listen to other offers.

"I have only spoken with Matt's agent over this because I think it is best he concentrates on his football," he said.

"We have made the offer, but I am not sure he is interested in it at the moment.

"If the offer is not what he is looking, for we will look at how far we are away from an agreement and take it from there.

"I have got a list of replacements we are looking at already, if we cannot reach an agreement that enables me to do that."
