Women’s captain Mandy Rowley-Jones led from the front on Saturday as Croydon Harriers’ veterans enjoyed a medal-laden Surrey Masters Championship in Ewell, writes Matthew Kiernan.
The club came home with 17 medals in total with Rowley-Jones accounting for four of those by triumphing in the over-50 long jump (4.04m), javelin (19.52m), high jump (1.20m) and triple jump (8.80m) with four championship best performances.
Further golds came courtesy of Tony Richards (men’s over-60 shot and hammer), Linda Harrison (women’s over-60 long jump and triple jump), Colin Oxlade (men’s over-55 1,500m) and Simon Loughran (men’s over-35 800m).
Andy Del Nevo broke a club record in the men’s over 45 pole vault when he cleared 3m for silver.
Elsewhere, Harriers’ Ashleigh Clarke, Taylor Campbell and Cameron Smith helped Surrey to runners-up position at the South of England inter-county championships at Abingdon.
Clarke won the girls’ U15 200m in 25.91 seconds, with Campbell eighth in the sprint hurdles final and Smith sixth in the U20 100m and eighth in the 200m.
