Four Hercules Wimbledon athletes will be in action for Surrey in the South of England Inter-Counties cross-country championships at Croydon’s Lloyd Park on Saturday, writes Tom Pollak.
Leading the quartet are Claire Grima and Ruth Clifton, who become the club’s reprasentatives for the county’s senior women’s team for several decades having clinched their places with impressive runs in the Max Sports Surrey Ladies cross country league.
Two youngsters, Cassian Hyde and Tim Livingstone have also been chosen to wear the old gold colours of Surrey in the boys’ U15 and men’s U17 events having shown excellent form in the 2XU Surrey Men's League.
Ben Palmer and Sam Helm are reserves for the men’s U17 and boys’ U15.
The club’s hopes of repeating their opening match victory in the ladies cross country league were dashed by illness-induced absences in the second meeting in Richmond Park on Saturday, through they still claimed third.
They were led by Grima, who was 14th in 22 minutes, 31 seconds with Jennifer Fernando 25th in 23:38, Steph Robson 27th in 23:49, Jordan Folk 38th in 24:17 and Amy Aronson 52nd in 24:46 completing the scoring.
