Walton Athletics Club’s Sophie Mace capped a sensational year by collecting the Surrey Sports Awards young sports personality of the year gong on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old from Molesey is ranked the number U17 girls discus thrower in the UK, having won the English Schools, England U20, South of England U17 and Surrey County Championships in 2015.
Mace also set a new discus personal best of 47.35m this season - setting a new U17 girls county record in the process.
Katrina Fritsch of awards organisers Active Surrey said: “I hope the winners, and all of those shortlisted, use this as a platform on which to build for further success in 2016.”
Retried Harlequins winger Ugo Monye was named elite sports professional of the year.
