Collingwood AC’s men snuck a podium place at the Switchback 5m on Sunday, with home club Striders of Croydon taking the outright win.

Olly Collis (30 minutes 43 seconds), Mark Constantinou (32:19) and Anthony Constantinou (32:47) teamed up to run a combined time 1.36:49, which was good enough for a third place in the men’s team competition.

Collis was first home for the club in the individual race, a debut seventh place finish was good enough for 40 points towards this year’s men’s club competition.

Martin Lloyd was next for Collingwood in 34:28, with Chris Curtis (34:41) and Jonathan Sharrock (39:15) fifth and sixth home for the club.

Amanda Curtis was first for the ladies, navigating the tough, undulating course in 49:30 to take home an important 40 points.

Evie Odej was next in 55:02 with Rosa Constantinou just managing to dip under the hour in 59:53.

Maria Lawrence, making her third appearance at the Switchback, was fourth for the ladies in 1.1:55.

Rupert Quested was the first and only V60 who turned out for Collingwood at Lloyd Park, finishing in 102nd in 58:27.

Mark Constantinou’s ran the best age-graded score on the day, clocking 32:19.

The race for this year’s points competition continues next week, when the club turn out for the East Surrey League Cross Country at Lloyd Park.

Elsewhere, two Collingwood members took on the Monster marathon in Ely, Cambridgeshire - Steve Cooney finished in 3.52:00 and Andy Stalley in 4.08:00.

And Collingwood was also represented at the Berlin marathon on Sunday with Shun-Lai Chan (F45) grabbing a personal best in 3.48:12, Annette Helliwell (F55) finishing in 3.56:12 and her husband John (M55) clocking 4.08:56.
