Harry Aikines-Aryeetey was disappointed he was unable to carry on his good form from the Loughborough European Athletics Permit meeting into the London Olympic stadium.

The 26-year-old Sutton & District sprint star crashed out of the qualifying heats of men’s 100m at London Anniversary Games IAAF Diamond League event on Friday evening.

And despite being the best of the British contingent with his fifth place 10.33secs effort in wet conditions it was not enough to advance Aikines-Aryeetey to the final.

That time was well below the 10.16 he recorded in Loughborough.

“10.16 is acceptable from where I want to build from,” said Aikines-Aryeetey.

“I would have like to run faster here, but it was just one of those days.

“You just to take it for what it is, I’m not massively happy, but I’ll move forward from it.

“I was told I wouldn’t be able to compete this year so to be actually be here is a great deal.

"To be in a position where I’m just sort of pushing for any sort of places is nice.”
