Herne Hill Harriers’ Katie Snowden will run for Great Britain after being crowned England U23 champion over 800m.

Snowden will pull on the national colours at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, from July 9.

The 21-year-old had previously hit the qualifying time for the international meeting after clocking a personal best and club record time of two minutes 1.77 seconds in winning a BMC Grand Prix meeting at Sportcity in Manchester in May, but her winning form at Bedford on Saturday cemented her berth.

Snowden clocked 2:04.68 in windy conditions in becoming English champion, maintaining even splits across the two laps.

Her gold medal was another milestone this year, with Snowden currently lying sixth in the national senior rankings for 800m in Britain.

Competing at Bedford alongside Snowden, clubmate Lewis Lloyd was equal fifth in the 1,500m in 3:59.50 in a tactical final in what represented a competitive return to racing.

Jessie Knight was also fifth in the 400m final in 54:64.

Tayo Andrews medalled after finishing equal second with three others as he cleared 2.04m in the high jump.

Lascelles Hussey was 11th in his U20 1,500m heat in 4:01.4, which acted as warm-up for the upcoming English Schools Championships.

John Tayleur also ran a fine personal best of 10:04.33 in coming sixth in the U23 3,000m steeplechase.

On the road, Hayley Munn was a winner at the Ranelagh 10k at Ham, clocking 36:05, with Mel Edwards fourth in 38:29.

In the men’s race, Jonathan Ratcliffe was 32nd in 35:24, Matt Munro 50th in 36.13 and Mike Boyle 53rd in 36.17.

Meanwhile, the men remain top of the Southern Men's League Division One Central after the third of four meetings last weekend.
