A trio of Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club runners will be in action for Surrey this weekend in the South of England inter-counties cross-country meeting in Oxford.

However, veteran marathon runner Claire Grima, who missed last weekend's 2XU Surrey Ladies League meeting at Nonsuch Park due to a virus, faces a battle against the clock to recover in time to turn out for the county team in the senior women's match.

Two other Hercules Wimbledon runners, Matt Gibbons and Jack Collins have been called up for the men’s U17 team.

Collins, 17, warmed up for the biggest race of his life by racing to a personal best time in the Richmond Park parkrun on Saturday.

He clocked 17 minutes 31 seconds for the 5km event in finishing seventh out of almost 300 runners, taking 27 seconds off his previous best time set last year.

For the second successive weekend, Hercules Wimbledon had two parkrun winners - veteran Felix Allen won a parkrun race for the first time when he headed home 87 runners on Ham Lands, Kingston, in 18:40.

His time sliced eight seconds off his previous best set in September, and his success was his first in a total of 35 parkruns since his debut in August 2012.

Hercules Wimbledon's over-45 veteran Lisa Thomas gained another win in the Wimbledon Common parkrun where she was top woman finisher in 20:35.

She was some way off her best time as she was keeping something in reserve to turn out in the 2XU Surrey Ladies League in the afternoon.

Top Hercules Wimbledon finisher on Wimbledon Common was Adam Harwood who was seventh out of 231 runners in 18:35.

Over-45 veteran Peter Lee was ninth in 18:48 just ahead of clubmate David Grimshaw (19:16).

Alex Abrahams also posted a personal best in finishing 15th in 19:46 - his time sliced eight seconds off his previous best set at the beginning of last month.

Hercules Wimbledon marathon runner David Grima had a good run in the Bushy Park event where he posted a personal best time of 17:44 in finishing seventh out of 749 runners.

He got inside 18 minutes for the first time as his time took 26 seconds off his previous best for the course set in February 2012.

Meanwhile Zac Purnell took the junior parkrun 2km event in Wimbledon Park on Sunday in 7:21.

Making the dash over from her parkrun effort on Wimbledon Common, Thomas led the 10-strong contingent of Hercules Wimbledon runners home in the 2XU Surrey Ladies League race in Nonsuch Park, Ewell.

She was 36th out of almost 200 runners in the Division One 6km race in 25:48, with Gina Galbraith 41st in 25:59, Steph Robson 57th in 26:37 and Francesca Clarke 58th in 26:43. Alison Purnell completed the scoring team finishing 88th in 27:54.

This weekend, Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club are hosting a cross-country match on Wimbledon Common which incorporates the five miles club championship for the Wimbledon Boro' News Cup.

The race starts from near the Thatched Cottage on the Common at 2pm.

Hercules Wimbledon's track and field training sessions take place at Wimbledon Park athletics stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6.30pm and Sunday mornings at 10.30am. Further details from coaching coordinator Maurice Sharp on 020 8337 8707.
