Hercules Wimbledon AC’s senior women’s track and field team made a solid start to their season, sharing the honours in the Rosenheim League opener, and finishing third in the opening Southern Women’s League meeting.

The over-45 veteran Lisa Thomas led a record-breaking week as she bettered a hat-trick of club times in the Rosenheim League Eastern Division meeting at Battersea Park.

Thomas set new veteran records over 400m (66.80 seconds), 800m (two minutes 33.4secs) and 3,000m (11:18.3).

Newcomer Maria Antoniou was the club’s only individual winner in the mid-week meeting taking the triple jump with a leap of 9.05m.

Laura Wignall was second in the 200m, and she also ran the opening leg for the 4x200m relay team which finished runners-up.

Other members of the squad were Hannah Fernando, Heather Letley and Emilie Bokor-Ingram.

A further two club records fell in the Southern Women’s League Division One match at Erith stadium on Saturday.

Alison Murray climbed 3.10m in the pole vault to break the veteran record, and Ann Martin set another veteran record in the shot (5.06m).

Emily Martin warmed up for this weekend’s Surrey championships with a double win in the 100m (13.00secs) and long jump (5.36m).

Emilie Bokor-Ingram took the 400m in 60.40secs, while teenager Emma Headley won over 800m in 2:29.00.

Hannah Fernando secured maximum points in the 800m by winning the B string races.

Fernando also won the 1,500m B race with Amy Aronson winning the A string race (5:12.00) - Aronson also won the 3,000m, clocking 10:36.7.

Joint team managers Letley and Fernando set by example competing in 10 individual events between them, as well as both relays.

They linked up with Bokor-Ingram and Maria Antoniou, who was also third in the triple jump A and second in the long jump B, to secure second place in the 4x400m relay.

Letley was also second in the 200m and 400m hurdles A races and won the high jump B.

Fernando was also third in the 100 and 200m B races and was second in the triple jump B.

The competition, with Hercules lying third, comes to Wimbledon Park next on June 7.
