Rashid Yussuff wants to stay at AFC Wimbledon this summer and help guide them up the table next season.

The 22-year-old is one of a number of Dons players who are out of contract in June and waiting to hear their fate from manager Terry Brown.

Despite making 44 appearances this term he has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot but is enjoying Football League life at Kingsmeadow and does not want to leave.

“I definitely would like to stay,” he said.

“The bunch of lads here is good, facilities are good and the fans are great.

“Most of the boys are out of contract and we are just waiting to find out now.

“We are professionals and we come in every day with a smile on our face, train hard and go home.

“It is the first season where I have had a number of games consistently in the Football League.

“It has been tough but that is like any league in any season and we just have to keep on going.

“The good thing is we reached our target and stayed in this league and next year we can build on that.

“We should definitely look to the play-offs as this year we underachieved massively.

“We have had a number of Saturdays where we could have beaten teams but didn’t have the belief – next year we can work on that.”

Yussuff opened the scoring in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Torquay United – with George Moncur adding the other – but it could have been a very different afternoon for the midfielder, who was only included on the substitutes bench when Jack Turner got injured in the warm-up.

“That’s football,” added Yussuff.

“I was getting ready to watch but I got a call about 2.59pm telling me to get my stuff ready.

“I had been doing running with the sports scientists Jason Moriarty as we have to imitate game situations so was tired and it was a lot to take in.

“But it could happen any time and it was good to get on the pitch, get a few minutes under my belt and play well.”
