Welsh coach wary of Christmas threat

London Welsh coach Danny Wilson is refusing to get carried away despite his Dragons side stretching their winning run to five games at the weekend.

Saturday’s hard-fought 30-24 win over visitors Rotherham saw the Exiles strengthen their grip on fourth spot in the Championship, cutting the gap on third-place Nottingham to just one point.

But with Christmas clashes with Bedford and league leaders Exeter to come, Wilson admits there is still plenty of work to do.

He said: “It was important that we went into the games with Bedford and Exeter with some momentum.

“We have won five games on the bounce but there is still a lot of work for us to do.

“If we are to have any chance of winning those games we have to improve in certain areas - we missed too many first tackles and we did not stick to the game plan.

“We have so much ability in this squad that if we can correct those issue we are capable of some very good things this season.”

Errie Claassens (two), Guy Mercer and Tom Brown grabbed the tries as Welsh rallied from a 13-point deficit to see off the lowly Titans.

London Welsh’s next three matches: Dec 26 Bedford (a), Jan 2 Exeter (h), 10 Cornish Pirates (a)
