Harlequins RL have signalled their intent to build from within by persuading three of their most promising academy players to sign new contracts with the club.

Max Edwards (18), Omari Caro (18) and Rob Thomas (19) have all starred with the Quins academy and reserve sides over the last couple of seasons, and have all signed new deals for the 2010 season.

And with the London club admitting recently they will be unable to splash the cash on any big-name signings in the near future, producing more players in the vein of Tony Clubb and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook seems the way to go.

Head of Youth Performance Phil Jones said: “This club is committed to investing in local talent and so I am very pleased we have secured the services of Max, Rob and Omari for next season.

“All three have made considerable advances during their time at the club.

“Rob played exclusively at reserve grade last year, Max made several reserve appearances and has a phenomenal scoring record and Omari has taken to the game exceptionally well in his first season, averaging a try a game.

“I am sure they will continue to progress towards their ambitions of playing Super League.”

The trio are all represented by former London Bronco and Great Britain star Martin Offiah.

And the wing great reckons his charges have all the skills needed to succeed and give the Stoop side a boost in years to come.

Offiah said: “Max, Rob and Omari are very promising players and I am confident that they will continue to flourish within the excellent Youth Performance programme at Harlequins.

“As a Londoner myself I am especially pleased that they have the opportunity to further their careers with the club we love and the city we all love.”
