Archers beat the downpours

Royal Richmond Archery Club's traditional season opener, the pagoda shoot, attracted nearly 200 visiting archers to Old Deer Park last weekend, writes Leigh Walmsley.

The event's popularity meant that, for this year, RRAC added four additional targets for Albion round by extending shooting on the adjacent field, where the shorter Windsor round was being held.

Play was stopped shortly for a heavy downpour, while archers sheltered in the pavilion or their line tents, but the action resumed after 15 minutes.

The weather may have been a contributing factor for the lack of a new national record at the shoot, which has been the case at the past three Pagoda Shoots.

RRAC host a come and try day at the club's grounds on Saturday, May 17, and runs beginner's courses in June.
