Harlequins head coach John Kingston says Worcester Warriors scrum half Charlie Mulchrone will only benefit from a switch to the Stoop.

The 26-year-old will team up with the former Premiership champions next term after agreeing a move to west London with a little over a month of the current campaign remaining,

Mulchrone, who is qualified to play for England and Ireland, has made 42 appearances for the Warriors in two seasons at Sixways, having previously captained Rotherham Titans.

He faces a fight with England scrum half Danny Care and the experienced Karl Dickson for the number nine shirt and Kingston reckons that will bring the best out of the new man.

“We have been monitoring Charlie for a couple of years and are very excited to finally be able to bring him to Harlequins," he said.

"He fits perfectly with the style of nine we need at the club and I am sure he will push on very quickly within our structure working alongside Danny Care and Karl Dickson.”

Mulchrone added: “I’m delighted to be joining Quins. Their brand of rugby is one I am a huge advocate of and players seem to play with a smile on their face.

“There are so many quality players in the squad and I am looking forward to contributing to their success.”

Quins kept hopes of a top four finish alive with a 46-25 win over Newcastle Falcons at the Stoop on Saturday, thanks to tries from Tim Visser (two), Jack Clifford, Joe Gray, Joe Marchant and Marland Yarde.

Director of rugby Conor O'Shea, who steps down in the summer, sees his men host London Irish on Saturday night for a place in the European Challenge Cup semi-finals.
