Harlequins full back Mike Brown is using his World Cup disappointment as motivation for a successful return to Twickenham this weekend.

Twickenham was the stage when England were left humiliated after being kicked out of the World Cup at the group stage by Australia last year – the first time a host nation had suffered such a blow.

Now, under the tutelage of Eddie Jones, England are returning to the scene of the crime for Saturday’s Six Nations clash with Ireland.

The 30-year-old, pictured, said: “I will always have it at the back of my mind to motivate me even more.

“Every single day, every time I am training, every time I’m playing, every time I’m lucky enough to pull on a white jersey.”

England top the table having beaten Scotland and Italy, while Ireland have lost to France and drawn against Wales.

Brown and team-mates are prepared for a bigger test this weekend, and Brown added: “We definitely know we have to keep stepping it up.

“Training has been good, confidence is building, so we are in a good place.”

Brown is joined in the England squad by Danny Care, Jack Clifford, Joe Marler, Chris Robshaw and Marland Yarde.

Meanwhile, Quins wing Tim Visser has been called up for the Scotland squad to face Italy, and Jamie Roberts will line up with Wales against France.

On the domestic front, Ben Botica kicked 20 points as Quins arrested a run of three defeats in the Aviva Premiership.

Friday’s 25-19 victory over Leicester, which also featured a Marland Yarde try, pictured above, lifted Quins into the top four at Leicester’s expense.

They could go third in the table with victory at Saracens on Sunday.
