Spanish midfielder Jota issued a statement on his Bees exit the same day James Tarkowski refused to play for Brentford amid speculation over his future, writes Stuart Amos.

Tarkowski faces disciplinary action from the Bees after intentionally sitting out Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Burnley, telling head coach Dean Smith he did not want to play in a training ground meeting last Thursday.

The Clarets had an approach for the 23-year-old turned down by Brentford earlier this month as the club maintains it will only sell its best players if the price is right.

Meanwhile, Jota has agreed an 18-month loan switch to Spanish La Liga club Eibar – one of his former clubs – having struggled with personal issues this term as he has battled back from a ankle surgery.

The 24-year-old has penned an extension to his Bees deal until the end of the 2017-18 season, but can be recalled to Griffin Park during the next two transfer windows – this summer and January 2017.

Jota revealed in a statement that he had turned down offers from the English Premier League during his time in west London.

He insisted he would not be leaving the Bees in the lurch now by choice and he did not rule out a return to the Championship outfit.

“A year and a half ago I arrived at Brentford and from that moment you made me feel like one of you,” he said.

“However, the day has arrived where we have to go our separate ways and as you know, I will leave to continue my football career in my native Spain.

“This isn’t ‘goodbye' but more of a ‘see you later’ or ‘hasta luego’ as we say in Spain, because I have just extended my contract with Brentford for an extra year.

“My decision is based solely on personal circumstances and for that reason I will spend the next 18 months at home in Spain.

“During my time in England I have had offers from the Premier League as well as other foreign leagues that I have always rejected due to my commitment to Brentford.

“I want people to know that if it wasn’t for my personal circumstances I would not be going anywhere.”
