Brentford midfielder Alex Pritchard starred as his goal proved enough to give Brentford a 1-0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

In an entertaining game both sides had chances during the first half, with Andre Gray and Jota going close for the Bees, before the Spurs starlet secured all three points midway through the second period.

With the exception of one close shave in added on time, the visitors bossed the final quarter of the game as they kept their push for promotion on track.

The Bees' first chance came when Alex Pritchard fired wide, while in reply Steve Morison got his head to a cross from the left, but David Button took a comfortable catch.

Gray had a great chance for the visitors when he broke clear from the edge of the centre circle, but Marco Silvestri did just enough to block his shot from inside the box.

Leeds broke quickly in reply, but Rodolph Austin blasted over from 20 yards. Austin was involved again when he tumbled under the challenge of Odubajo, but their penalty claims were waved away.

After Pritchard was fouled as he broke through on Leeds' goal, the midfielder stepped up himself to fire a free kick into the arms of Silvestri.

Another lightning quick break from Brentford saw Jota race down the right, before Silvestri made a good save at his near post from Jota's shot.

Early in the second half Austin again went down inside the box under the challenge of Odubajo, and again referee Salisbury dismissed any penalty claims.

From a corner on the right, Morison took the ball at the back of the box and after neat touch, fired over from a tight angle.

Brentford took the lead just before the mid-point of the second half when composed work on the right saw substitute Jon Toral feed Toumani Diagouraga and the midfielder's low pass across the six yard box was turned home by Pritchard.

Substitute Chris Long came close to doubling the lead when Stuart Dallas crossed from the left and the striker was inches away from connecting in front of goal.

Brentford continued to threaten, with Toral hitting a post before firing just wide from the left hand side of the box.

Leeds came close to an equaliser after Austin broke down the right and picked out Billy Sharp on the edge of the box, but he fired just wide of the left hand post.

A lovely piece of skill from substitute Tommy Smith saw him carry the ball to the byline and pull it back for Long, who shot straight at Silvestri.
