Boss Mark Warburton has not been surprised by Brentford's surge in to the Championship's top five this term, but he does wish his side were more clinical.

Striker Andre Gray rediscovered his goalscoring touch to land his 11th goal of the season and the only goal of the game as the Bees beat Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 on Saturday.

The 23-year-old missed a couple of opportunities of gilt-edged opportunities against the Seagulls in the FA Cup, but, while he was wasteful again at the Amex Community Stadium, he did get the one that counted on the south coast.

Brentford sit fifth in the Championship table having won 14 of their 26 games this term and Warburton believes their good form is down to confidence.

"We had two or three good chances and we should have taken those. We need to be more clinical," he said.

"Defenders want to keep clean sheets and clean sheets are important for us and boost confidence.

"Yes, there's talk of grinding out wins, but in truth if we had put our chances away we could have been two or three goals clear."

He added: "We knew we had a quality squad and all we lacked in the early games was self belief, but we soon got that and it started to flow.

"We have to take out chances and are taking one game at a time."
