Two late goals saw Brentford crash out of the third round of the FA Cup as Brighton and Hove Albion sealed a 2-0 win at Griffin Park on Saturday.

Despite holding the upper hand for much of the game, it was a disappointing outcome for a home side which had dominated both possession and chances throughout.

Bees’ manager made a number of changes, with regulars David Button, Tony Craig, Jonathan Douglas and Alex Pritchard all missing for various reasons.

Despite the changes, the Bees started brightly, with Jota finding space in the box and after his shot was saved, Andre Gray shot across the goal-line from a tight angle.

Moses Odubajo then came close when he cut in from the right and Gray headed his cross over.

Jota looked lively throughout the opening period and he set up Jon Toral, whose shot was saved at point-blank range by David Stockdale.

In reply, Solly March saw his low shot sail just wide of the left hand post.

Brentford continued to threaten in the early stages of the second half, with a cross from Alan Judge on the right ending with Toral shooting wide.

A quick break from the visitors ended with March’s shot bringing a good save out of Jack Bonham.

March then did well to dispossess Odubajo, before wasting a great chance by firing wide of the left hand post.

Toumani Diagouraga showed great determination to win the ball in midfield before releasing Odubajo down the right, but he wastefully shot high over the bar.

Brighton grew more adventurous in the closing stages and substitute Chris O’Grady should have done better when faced with just Bonham to beat.

The Seagulls took the lead with just two minutes remaining when they won a disputed free kick on the right and March’s cross was headed past Bonham by Lewis Dunk.

They sealed progress to the next round of the cup in added on time when O’Grady was clean through and slotted the ball past Bonham.
