Hercules Wimbledon teenager Barnaby Woods made a winning debut when he headed home the senior men's field in the opening East Surrey League cross-country fixture of the season.

Woods, 17, raced away from the 60-strong field to win the five-mile race  at Lloyd Park, Croydon, by 13 seconds in 29 minutes 51 seconds.

Clubmate Phil Glynn was third in 30:27, with George Ongworth fourth 10 seconds later.

With three runners in the top four, Hercules Wimbledon were comfortable winners of the team event.

Henry Silverstein was a narrow winner of the young athletes 2.5-mile race in 15:32, finishing 13 seconds ahead of clubmate Peter Riches with another Hercules Wimbledon runner, Daniel Illis, third in 16:16.

Hercules Wimbledon's over 45 veteran Lisa Thomas returned to winn ing ways in the Wimbledon Common parkrun on Saturday to take the women's event in 19:42 with the top age-graded performance.

Her last win came at the end of August when she clocked 20:09.

Best of the 16 Hercules Wimbledon runners in action on Wimbledon Common was over-40 veteran Peter Collins who was fourth out of almost 300 runners in 17:42.

Adam Harwood was seventh in 18:22, Simon Bodle 15th and top over-50 veteran in 19:28 with Charles Hampden-Smith 20th and second over-50 veteran in 19:41.

Hampden-Smith was also in action in the East Surrey League meeting later in the day where he was 22nd in the senior men's five-mile race in 34:05.

Another Hercules Wimbledon parkrun winner was Fred Slemeck who headed home a 300-plus strong field in 16:34.

Felix Allen was fifth out of almost 200 runners in the Medena parkrun on the Isle of Wight in 19:24.

Sisters Amelia and Madelaine Casey finished fourth in the women's event in the Richmond Park and Old Deer Park races. Amelia, 14, clocked 22:23, and Madelaine, 10, 25:58.

They will both will in action in the London Youth Games cross country championships at Parliament Hill Fields on November 15th. Amelia qualified for Wandsworth after finishing third in the Wandsworth Schools cross country championships Year Nine girls race on Tooting Common, Madelaine will be in action for Richmond.

Other leading Hercules Wimbledon runners in the Wandsworth championships who will be in action at parliament Hill Fields are Zac Purnell (third) and Peter Riches (fifth) in the Year nine boys race, and Bella Seymour (fifth in the Year 10 girls race).

Hercules Wimbledon's oldest active athlete, John Webster, posted a hat-trick of club records when he competed in the South East Counties Throws Association Weight Pentathlon at Ewell.

Webster won the over-75 event, and his records came in the hammer (19.68m), shot (6.07m) and discus (19.29m).

Hercules Wimbledon's Dimos Evangeledis was runner-up out of more than 100 runners in the Emer Casey Memorial 10km road race in Brockwell Park on Sunday.
