Hercules Wimbledon AC teenager Elliot Laville battled hot and humid conditions to finish 12th in the World Biathlete Championships in Guatemala.

Representing Great Britain, Laville finished in 10 minutes 27 seconds in a race won by Egyptian Sherif Rashad in 9:12.

The 16-year-old, a student at Reed’s School, Cobham, was competing in the U17s category and completed a 1,000m run, a 350m open water swim and a final 1,000m run.

Laville, who is also a member of Wimbledon Dolphins Swimming Club, was competing against biathletes from countries including Egypt, South Africa, Russia and the US.

Mum Carolyn said: “It was extremely challenging as the seawater was very warm.

“Elliot ran and swam unbelievably well in the toughest contest he has competed in.

“It was a wonderful experience for Elliot and a great honour to be part of the GB Biathlon team.”
