Croydon bomber Chas Symonds reckons he lost his British Masters gold light-middleweight title fight against Michael Lomax because of his history with referee Bob Williams.

The 32-year-old, who lost on points after 10 rounds, says that even Lomax’s wife and fans were amazed that Symonds had not been given the decision.

Lomax has offered Symonds a rematch, adding fuel to the former Croydon man’s assertion that he was the deserved winner.

Whether Symonds takes up the offer depends on when it is, and who is likely to referee the bout.

He said: “Bob and I have history ever since he refereed my fight against Gavin Tait in 2011 and gave him the win when it was clear I’d won.

“I said to him at the time ‘What fight were you watching?’ and we had an argument, and ever since then there’s been personal issues between us.

“After the Lomax fight, everyone was telling me I should have won, even his wife came up to me in the bar afterwards and told me she could not believe her husband had won.

“I have written to the Boxing Board of Control, but whether I will hear anything back, who knows.”

Lomax has offered the rematch in December, but Symonds is holding out for a March date, having just relocated to Halifax.

“I have just moved house and everything is up in the air,” he said.

“I will still be training in Croydon, but I will not take the rematch in December.”

He added: “But the fact Michael is offering the rematch shows I should have won.

“If he won the fight fair and square, why would he be offering a rematch?”
