Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club's teenage sprinting talent Rechmial Miller ended his season on a high to win the England Athletics U17 Championship 100m title at Bedford on Saturday - narrowly beating the pre-race favourite.

Miller, 15, went into the event as the South of England and Surrey 100m champion, as well as the England and South of England 60m indoor champion, two titles he won at the start of the year.

He comfortably won his heat in 10.90 seconds, the second fastest of the 24 semi-final qualifiers.

He went up a gear as he posted the fastest time of the eight finalists with a lifetime best 10.58secs in winning his semi-final race, admittedly with the help of a 3.5m per second tailwind.

Then he stormed to victory in the final where he again improved on his previous best with 10.54secs to beat pre-race favourite Owin Sinclair from Charnwood, Britain’s top-ranked U17 100m runner this season, by almost a metre.

His time took him to the top of this season's club 100m rankings, exceeding the previous best of Theo Etienne of 10.66secs.

The championship proved a great day for the Miller family as Rechmial's younger brother Chad won silver in the boys' U15 100m in 11.28secs, which equalled his lifetime best.

Earlier, he did improve on his personal best as he won his heat in 11.25secs, just behind his brother's 11.26 Hercules Wimbledon club record.

Chad, 14, picked up another medal when he took third spot in the 200m final on Sunday in a personal best and club record of 22.87.
