Brentford striker Scott Hogan is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a 'significant' knee injury at Rotherham United on Saturday.

The Bees triumphed through goals from Andre Gray and Nick Proschwitz, but the post-match atmosphere was tempered by the sight of Hogan, signed from Rochdale in the summer, being stretchered off at the New York Stadium.

Hogan, who scored 19 goals in 40 appearances for the Dale last term, was making only his second appearance for the Bees after picking up an ankle injury in pre-season.

Boss Mark Warburton moved quickly on transfer deadline day to cover the 22-year-old's absence by adding Sporting Libson's Portugal U21 international striker Betinho, 21, to his squad on a season-long loan deal.

"Scott's injury will require some careful management," said Brentford's head of medical Neil Greig this week.

"The short term need is to consult with the leading knee specialist in the country and devise a management plan.

"Scott has demonstrated a first class attitude during his short period with the club and this will stand him in good stead while recovering from this set back."

Betinho, also known as Alberto Coelho, completed his switch to the Bees yesterday and Warburton was delighted to get a player who has represented his country at every age group from U15s.

"Betinho is a very talented striker that first came to prominence in the NextGen series with Sporting," Warburton told the club's website.

"He is quick, strong and technically gifted and he shone in a very good team.

"Betinho had a spell out on loan last season and we have moved to bring him to Brentford.

"We look forward to him making a positive contribution in the season ahead."

Midfielder Adam Forshaw completed his protracted switch to Wigan Athletic on Monday.
