Teddington's Malan: T20 is no blast these days

Cricketers might look like they turn up to play T20 Blast cricket for a bit of fun, but for Middlesex and Teddington's Dawid Malan it is a serious business.

The 26-year-old is set to start for his county when they entertain Glamorgan at Old Deer Park on Thursday July 3, where he has enjoyed himself in season's gone by.

Malan has scored 154 runs at an average of 77 in four T20 innings for Middlesex at Richmond Cricket Club's home ground and once launched Australia international Shaun Tait over the pavilion for six.

The Roehampton-born star has helped his club fly high in the LV= County Championship Division One this term, but their form in the shortened form of the game has been poor by contrast.

And Malan has insisted that is not for a lack of trying.

"Twenty 20 is not just a case of turning up and playing your shots. It is a lot more strategic these days," he said.

"It is a much more intense game and if you are not 100 per cent switched on the game can get away from you quite quickly.

"For some reason when we have batted well we have bowled poorly and when we have bowled well we have batted poorly.

"We have not been able to put both disciplines together and that is why we have struggled this term."
