Sutton CC skipper keeps calm and carries on in the wake of the runaway leaders
Sutton CC skipper David Mitchell says they are not worried about the runaway leaders of the Surrey Championship Premier Division.
Having avoided any abandoned games and winning six out of six so far, Reigate Priory are 27 points clear of Spencer and Sutton in second and third.
But Sutton, who beat bottom club Banstead by six wickets on Saturday, have eyes only on themselves.
Mitchell said: “Reigate started well and we know they are a good team because we’ve played T20 and league matches against them.
“We go to Sunbury this weekend and the camp is in confident mood for that game, and that is all we can do, enjoy our cricket and keep picking up the points.
“There is a good vibe here at the moment, the lads are gelling well and we’re in a good place.”
The win over Banstead came courtesy of four wickets for Garth Davson and three for Warren Barnes as the visitors fell to 107 all out.
Daniel Edwards (31) top scored as Sutton chased down the comfortable target.
Mitchell said: “Our bowling attack was excellent and we made the most of the overhead conditions to get some swing out of the ball.
“Warren [Barnes] is lethal with the new ball, and he did a lot of damage.”
He added: “We lost four wickets in the reply but at no point did we ever look like we were going to wobble.”
Gary Outram returns to the side this weekend, with Garth Foote expected to drop out.
