Banstead racer Matt Flowers has three weeks to sort out his ride ahead of the next meeting of the GT5 Challenge G40 Championship.

Engine problems curtailed the 25-year-old’s showing at Silverstone last weekend, where a ninth place finish in round seven was followed by a DNF in round eight and last place in round nine.

Overall, Flowers sits 11th in the standings ahead of the trip to Snetterton on June 21.

He said: “Silverstone was a bit of a disaster. I was about 4mph off the pace in the first race and then a spark plug failure ruled me out of the second.

“In the final race I was down on power and about 15mph off the pace, so I finished last.”

He added: “But we have three weeks to fix the problem.

“We think it’s either a blockage in the exhaust that has been building up, or a problem with the engine itself.

“Diagnosis should not be too taxing as it is a big problem, so hopefully we can get it sorted out.”

Despite the set-back Flowers, who races with Motorsport Academy and in his second season in the Challenge, insists it has a been a season well spent so far.

“The more time I spend in the car, the more confident I am getting,” he said.

“It would be nice to get a podium finish and build towards the end of the season, but every race is helping my development.”
