Croydon Harrier jumpers Elliot Safo and Tunde Amuso made waves in the US last week breaking meeting and club records respectively.

European junior champion Safo leapt to 7.73m in the long jump while representing Harvard University at the Ivy League Heptagonal championships in New Haven.

The performance ranks him seventh in the UK and also eclipsed the previous meeting record.

Club colleague Tunde Amuso extended his club record in the triple jump to 15.97m, having triumphed at the Mt Sac Relays representing Iowa University in California.

On home soil, Lisa Harris began the defence of her Surrey Road League title winning the women’s race at the Sutton 10K in a new personal best of 38 minutes 13 seconds - 20 seconds clear of her nearest rival.

David Brown was 39th in the field of more than 400 finishers in 37:40.

The Croydon Harrier girl’s team kicked off their Lily B league campaign in Guildford in fine style topping the standings in their opening fixture.

Croydon triumphed on 329pts, well clear of Herne Hill (278), Walton (256), Fleet & Crookham (98), South London (96.5) and Hercules Wimbledon (72.5).

Marcia Sey and Kayla Bowley grabbed maximum points in the U13 girls 200m and 70m hurdles.

The U15 girls also impressed with maximum points in the 100m (Tosin Salami & Esinam Dake), 200m (Chanice Gordon & Tosin Salami), 75m hurdles (Chanice Gordon & Serena Mitchell), long jump (Ola Olufemi-Krakue & Esinam Dake) and the A and B 4x100m relay teams.

In the U17s, there were a further eight individual event wins.

At the British University championships in Bedford, Ned Quiney won bronze in the pole vault with a 4.60m clearance while representing Loughborough.

Chris Clarke (Brunel) reached the semi-finals of the 200m (22.97secs) and Ben Savill (Sussex) ran 16:46.7 in the Heats of the 5000m.

In the pick of the parkrun action, Jake English won for the eighth time at Crystal Palace, Sam Clayton was runner-up at Lloyd Park and Alex Penfold celebrated his 100th event with third at Banstead Woods.

This weekend, sees Croydon host the first division of the Southern Athletics League on Saturday and the boys team travel to Kingston for the opening Ebbisham League fixture on Sunday.

This Sunday, Croydon launches a new running group for girls at Lloyd Park.

The scheme is being held in conjunction with the Sportivate programme by Sport England and Pro-Active London. The 12-week scheme will run from May 18 and starts at 10am.
