Battle lines drawn in Esher for season ending derby clash
Updated 12:43pm Wednesday 16th April 2014 in Sport
Esher coach Craig Chalmers reckons his men have plenty to play for in their final game of a disappointing National Division One campaign – local pride.
Tries from David Millard (two), Patrick O’Grady, Michael Wilson, Mike Macfarlane and Luke Daniels (two) secured a 46-32 victory over struggling Cinderford.
It leaves Esher sixth in the table, three points ahead of rivals Richmond who they face on their final day of the season on April 26.
“It will be good to finish the season on a high, Richmond are our local rivals and will be desperate to finish on a win too,” he added.
“We are back at home and want to go out on a high.
“Not just for this season, but it will give the winner bragging rights ahead of the new season and we want to be the ones holding them.”
Richmond director of rugby Steve Hill’s men were impressive 49-21 winners over Tynedale – thanks to tries from Chris Davies (two) and one each for Jason Phipps, Matt Keville, Rob Alexander, Will Browne and Dan
“They’re big local rivals and see themselves as superior to us and we’re going to go to their place and, hopefully, play as well as we did here,” Hill added.
