Carsharlton’s "Pretty" Ricky Boylan admitted he learnt a lot from his six-round victory over tough Polish operator Krzysztof Szot on Saturday at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

However, it was not plain sailing as the 60-54 shut-out on referee’s Marcus McDonnell scorecard suggests as the 25-year-old Boylan had to endure fierce resilience from Poznan-based Szot before claiming his 11th professional success.

Boylan, who in his last bout four months ago claimed the Southern Area light-welterweight title from fellow Carshalton resident and friend Tony Owen, said: “I knew he (Szot) was tough and very durable. I just wanted to get the rounds under my belt which I done.

“It was the perfect fight for me so I will learn a lot from that and it will help me further on in my career, so I’m happy.

“I’m now looking forward to keeping busy, staying active and learning a lot more.”

And Boylan was given some encouraging words from his co-promoter Matchroom Sport’s Barry Hearn.

“Barry just gave a couple of tips but he was happy with my performance,” he added.

Boylan will next fight on May 21.
