Walton Athletics Club’s Sophie Mace smashed the UK U17 girls throws pentathlon record by more than 1,000 points at Swindon Harriers’ Winter Throws Invitational Series on Saturday.

The 15-year-old threw 10.83 metres in the shot, 41.70m in the discus, 24.34m in the javelin, 38.81m in the hammer and 11.60m – a new English U17 girls record – in the rarely contested weight throw, to score a whopping 3,021 points.

Mace’s brother Sam set a new U15s UK best points total in Wiltshire to ensure parity in the East Molesey pair’s household.
