Hampton & Richmond Borough co-manager Paul Barry has given up on the play-offs, but not the Middlesex Senior Challenge Cup.

Following wins over Wembley and Northwood, the Beavers find themselves in the semi-final on March 6 facing their Ryman Premier League rivals Hendon.

Barry said: “The final is a great prize for us, so the cup is one of our main targets – we need to keep winning.

“Everyone will play, and we’re hoping to get a few guys back from injury before then, so we’ll go to Hendon looking to do our best.”

Barry ruled out any complacency after a one-sided meeting at the Beveree earlier this season.

Hampton won 5-2, but Barry said: “Both sides are much changed since then, and Hendon have been on a good run of late. But we’ve shown this year that if we play as we can, we beat anyone in this division.

“We want consistency, and a good run in the league will bring us confidence going into this game.”

The Beavers sit 13th in the table, but with seven of their next eight games at home they could make a late surge up the table.

Barry however remains coy about Hampton’s league ambitions.

He said: “The aim is just to improve on last season to be honest. We finished 13th with 53 points and we are on course to top that.

“Our budget has been reduced and with a young team there was no pressure on us to get promoted.”

With Hendon also in mid-table and several points off the play-offs, next Thursday’s cup clash holds significance for both teams.

This weekend, the Beavers host Leiston, looking to return to winning ways after a 1-1 draw with Cray Wanderers in mid-week, and a 3-2  defeat at Harrow Borough last weekend.
