Hercules Wimbledon's women's cross-country team ended their 2013/14 programme on a high with their best performance of the season in the final Division One meeting Surrey Ladies League meeting in muddy Lloyd Park, Croydon.

Claire Grima led the team to its top effort with her best-ever individual placing in a league race, taking second out of 167 runners in the five-mile race in 33 minutes 30 seconds.

The four remaining members of Hercules Wimbledon's five-strong team packed well with Emilie Bokor-Ingram and Lisa Thomas 35th and 37th both in 37:42, Gina Galbraith 40th in 37:57 and Eileen Brandley 44th in 38:12.

Overall, the Hercules A team finished 10th in the league standings.

Showing their strength in depth, 14 Hercules runners completed the course and the club took second spot in the B team competition on the day, and 19th overall.

Hercules Wimbledon's Isabelle Ellis was 19th out of 56 runners in the young athletes 2.5 miles race, clocking 18:33.

Without one of their leading runners, Kieran White, who got stuck in the traffic on the way to the race, Hercules Wimbledon's senior men finished seventh in the final 2XU Surrey cross-country league meeting in Richmond Park but managed to take a solid fourth spot overall.

It was another member of their Surrey title-winning team, Liam White, who led the Hercules Wimbledon team home finishing 20th in 31:49, with Matt Sharp 25th in 32:00, Joe Clark 44th in 32:55, Alex Robinson 49th in 33:04 and Rob Tuer 61st in 33:29.

Other members of the scoring team of 10 were Jonathan Cornish, 81st out of more than 200 finishers in 34:19, Alexie Calvert-Ansari 95th in 34:52, Stuart Fraser 111th in 35:23, Sean Crummy 123rd in 35:59 and Belal Aly 150th in 38:15.

Peter Riches was third in the U13 race in 18:52 ahead of Daniel Illis (fifth in 19:20) and George Trimm (10th in 20:37), leading the Hercules Wimbledon team to second spot.

This weekend, Hercules Wimbledon's athletes are chasing titles and medals in the annual Surrey indoor championships at trhe David Weir Leisure Centre at Carshalton.
