Hampton & Richmond Borough joint manager Paul Barry has told his squad to keep enjoying their football and results will look after themselves.

The Beavers bounced back from last month’s 7-2 hammering at Maidstone United to grab a 3-1 win at Met Police on Tuesday, despite being reduced to 10 men after Karle Carder’s 65th minute sending off.

The result – sealed with a Charlie Moone brace and a Dave Tarpey effort – lifted Hampton to ninth in the table and 12 points adrift of
a top five finish.

And, while Barry has not given up hope of reaching the play-offs, he admitted a promotion challenge next term was far more likely.

“We have a young squad and we are still developing as a team,” he said.

“The only thing that we are focused on doing is to enjoy our football and stay in the league.”

Barry, whose side have lost just one of their past 10 games, had challenged his men to prove his side’s critics wrong after succumbing to United last time out.

And with Moone and Tarpey pulling the strings anything remains possible.

“The boys were fantastic on Tuesday,” he added.

“We all knew that it would be hard to come to Imber Court and get a win, but I told them to go into the game with the belief that we could get back to winning ways.

“Every single one of us has proved our critics wrong.

“That match serves as a reminder to the boys that we are capable of beating anyone in the league.

“The Maidstone result is water under the bridge. We have to be determined for the full 90 minutes from now on.

“Charlie and David have been in inspirational form of late.

“I am in no doubt that there is far more to come from the two.

“They can achieve anything if they put their minds to it.”
