Leatherhead boss Brady delivers a warning to champions elect
Leatherhead boss Richard Brady has warned Ryman Division One South leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe to put the title champagne on ice.
With Peacehaven’s weekend match being postponed, the Tanners took full advantage beating Tooting & Mitcham 2-1 at Imperial Fields – with goals from Ian Draycott and Jamie Coyle – cutting the gap at the top to five points.
Peacehaven are unbeaten in 18 league games, and have lost just twice this season, while the Tanners are on a run of four consecutive wins.
However, Brady believes his side’s recent form has filled the squad with enough confidence to take the remaining 16 fixtures by the throat, and pip the East Sussex outfit to automatic promotion.
He said: “I would be lying if I said that we do not have a chance of winning promotion.
“We are on a roll at the moment and our recent results have ensured that the boys are full of confidence leading up to every game.
“I would suggest that Peacehaven don’t start celebrating promotion just yet.”
The Surrey outfit are desperate to get back into the Ryman Premier League for the first time since suffering relegation at the end of the 2011-12 season.
But Brady insists his side is not being distracted by Peacehaven’s success, and instead are just enjoying playing football.
“The worst thing to do is to see how your rivals are getting on,” he said.
“The majority of teams in this league are good enough to secure promotion. You must remember it is only February anything can happen.
“The only thing we should do at the moment is to enjoy our football.”
The Tanners face stern opposition in Hythe Town at home on Saturday, and despite going into the game with a full fit squad, Brady insists they have nothing but respect for the 12th place club.
“You have to give your full respect to every club you play against,” he said.
“This is football, anything can happen.”
