Surbiton Ladies’ Sarah Haycroft scored her maiden senior international goals as England were relegated from the EuroHockey Indoor Championships top tier at the weekend.

An inexperienced England lost to champions Holland, Czech Republic and Germany in the opening pool matches, before beating France and losing to Belarus to finish in the competition’s bottom two.

Haycroft scored against the Czech Republic and Belarus, while clubmate Giselle Ansley found the net against Belarus and also the Germans.

Meanwhile, Scotsman Alan Forsyth struck the only goal of the game as Surbiton beat Holcombe 1-0 in a friendly at Sugden Road on Sunday.

The game was played on a sand-based pitch – as will this weekend’s trip to Teddington – in preparation for the return to MHL Premier Division action at Wimbledon next weekend.
